Omni-directional – ie when mounted vertically, the radiation is the same in all directions in the horizontal plane (horizontal dispersion is 360°).
Internally, they consist of a series of vertical dipoles that lie in extension of each other. Therefore, they have gain that can compete with the yagi antennas, but this also means that you have to be just as careful with the orientation as with yagi antennas. The omni antennas are also sensitive to disturbances all around the horizon. When it comes to "point to point" connections, the yagi, panel or parabola antennas are often the best choice.
